What is your most prized possession? Is it your car? House? Shoe collection? Is it not a possession at all, but do you value your relationships with others most?
What do you treasure?
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. (Matthew 6:21)
When we value something or someone strongly, we can let it or them control us. We get attached. I, honestly, use to attach myself to things and people very easily. I became devoted to them. I would fear the thought of losing that person or thing. Fear is a powerful emotion and the Enemy knows it all too well. Satan will take that fear and use it to his advantage. Just how far will you go to hold on to your treasure? He will test the lengths you will go to hold onto to your valuables and ultimately, enslave you to it.
I focused so much on it that I didn’t see the God who had placed it into my life. Everything is for God. Our money, clothes, houses, careers, people we love, even our very next breath belongs to God. Yes, we belong to God but God loved us so very much that He sent His perfect Son as a sacrifice that we no longer have to be slaves to sin. If we have been freed to sin, why enslave ourselves to our money, possessions and relationships?
God calls us to seek Him first. Seek Him and come to Him with what we desire. He will provide everything we need. Always. God always follows through with His promises. We have to trust in Him completely and allow Him to fulfill them. Treasuring a relationship with God above all else frees us from the fear and sin.
I pray today that we will trust God completely. Put 100% of our faith in Him. Thank Him for the blessings He has provided to us and all the good things He will continue to do in our lives. God, please grant your Spirit to us so that we do not become slaves to the things the world has taught us to value. May our true treasure always be in knowing You and Your son, Jesus Christ.
“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:31-33)
